Situation

An Ambient, Inviting Gathering Space

The Shops at Dos Lagos, located near the historic Butterfield Stage Coach Route and the Temescal Tin Mines in Corona, California, sought to offer guests a unique and elegant retail experience that fosters community and family connection. They aimed to create an inviting, ambient gathering place to serve as a hub for shopping, dining, entertainment, and relaxation.

Solution

Master Planning an Aesthetically Beautiful, Functional Visitor Experience

Storyland Studios played a key role in designing The Shops at Dos Lagos. Built on the site of two former mining pits, the Dos Lagos site plan is centered on a perfectly circular pedestrian spine surrounding a matching pair of reflective lakes shaped like a heart, which redeem the scars of the abandoned mining pits. The thousands of details embedded in the urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, environmental graphics, lighting, and soundscape create a destination unlike any other in the area.

The Shops give visitors plenty of choices; they can choose to shop, dine, see a movie, enjoy a concert in the outdoor amphitheater, stroll around the lakes, or hang out in the plaza. This gathering place offers a pedestrian-friendly Main Street, store-front parking, and a welcoming plaza with comfortable seating, a kids’ play area, and a water feature.

Transformation

A Vibrant, Engaging Community Hub

The Shops at Dos Lagos are a vibrant community hub, offering a unique retail experience that attracts visitors seeking both leisure and connection. It’s an excellent example of Storyland’s ability to create spaces that blend creativity with functionality, enhancing the overall guest experience.

The U.S. Green Building Council awarded its first-ever LEED ND designation for a Green Neighborhood Development to the Dos Lagos development.
