Situation

Transforming former Georgia farmland into a hub for the creative heart.

Trilith Studios approach the Storyland team desiring to breathe life into a bold vision: one that would redefine creative living and cinematic storytelling. A major movie studio previously known as Pinewood Atlanta Studios, Trilith had already churned out a jaw-dropping lineup of blockbusters and acclaimed series, including Ant-Man, Avengers Infinity War and Endgame, Spider-Man: Homecoming and No Way Home, Guardians of the Galaxy Vols. 2 and 3, Wanda Vision, Loki, and many more. And the adjacent Town of Trilith was creating a burgeoning live/work/play community for the creative class.

In early 2021, Trilith approached Storyland Studios to help evolve its vision and add a deeper layer of storytelling. Storyland came alongside Trilith to help imagine, design, and create its future. Through a combination of strategic and Spatial Storytelling, we partnered with Trilith to build a truly unique place that serves filmmakers, actors, crew, fans, and the broader community.

Solution

The Big Idea: A Gateway to Inspiration

“At Trilith, we desire to create a sanctuary where individuals step through a living gateway, leaving behind the ordinary to inspire human flourishing.”

First, Storyland dove into a strategy consulting engagement with Trilith to help them consider what their consumer-based entertainment pillar would look like alongside their existing film studio. Included in this vision was the Town at Trilith, a New Urban community to nurture the world’s storytellers and creatives—and inspire more positive stories as a result. We conducted an in-depth feasibility study alongside the creative spatial BlueSky concept development process, so both components of the overarching vision could be presented hand-in-hand.

The BlueSky distilled Trilith’s core identity into five attributes: Physically Creative, Emotionally Caring, Intellectually Authentic, Socially Connected, and Spiritually Inspiring. These attributes formed pillars to the Big Idea, “Gateway to Inspiration.” This narrative lays the foundation for every design decision, inspiring a holistic approach to transforming Trilith into a sanctuary for creativity and human flourishing.

From this core identity, we crafted Trilith’s strategic story, which informed our Spatial Storytelling process. We took into account the visionary destination’s audience, competition, and financial potential. By combining a full spectrum of design disciplines—including identity and design, master planning, interior design, landscape architecture, and culture and guest experience design—we developed a unified narrative and aligned experience.

As part of the strategy consulting engagement, we recommended a studio tour, then helped the Trilith Foundation team design and operate it. Our team also put together a long-term plan to bring consumers to Trilith for retail, dining, and entertainment (RDE) experiences—not just for the studio tour or for residents living on-site, but for visitors too. Included in these are recommendations for the Trilith Live project, currently under construction. Storyland is working on the area development and landscape architecture for the project, as well as designing visitor experience inside that will showcase the movie magic happening on the property.

Transformation

A living legacy of creativity and innovation.

Today, Trilith stands as a vibrant fusion of art, architecture, and community. Its initial tour experience is an interactive narrative journey, which will be enhanced by the upcoming Trilith Live studio audience complex.

Projected to open by early 2026, Trilith Live will feature dual sound stages for TV shows like Family Feud, iconic movie props, immersive set pieces, a reimagined movie theater experience, and outdoor installations that illuminate the space with a bioluminescent touch. Once open, this space will become the gateway to the studio tour.

The Town of Trilith has evolved into an urban creative ecosystem where filmmakers, entrepreneurs, and innovators converge to break free from the ordinary. People from all walks of life live, work, and play in the Town of Trillith—some who work in the movie business, and others outside the industry who simply want to be inspired. Its residential component is evolving; each element reflects a careful balance of vision, design, and transformation. Innovative treehouse homes are set to be unveiled soon.

Storyland Studios is thrilled to continue partnering with Trilith through strategic development and creative support. “Storyland Studios is a forerunner and pioneer in the industry, but also dear friends and partners,” noted Dan T. Cathy, Founder & Chief Visionary of Trilith Studios, “They have been essential to us at Trilith, offering expertise in spatial storytelling, experience design, and overall feasibility.

We have worked extensively with Storyland Studios since early 2021, when we engaged them to craft a brand story based on the concept of Gateway to Inspiration. A key part of this process was understanding: the opportunities, the audience, the competition, and the financial potential of Trilith as a destination.

We, at Trilith, are more inspired because of our past and ongoing relationship with Storyland Studios.”
